Zen H • Piano Instructor

Zen is the pianist for the Chicago Goodnews Church, and is a budding composer/music producer based in Chicago. His educational journey in music began at Wilbur Wright College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Piano Performance. He further honed his skills at Northeastern Illinois University, acquiring a Master's Degree in Piano Pedagogy under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Susan Tang. During his time at NEIU, Zen immersed himself in a plethora of musical experiences, from concerto competitions, participating in master classes conducted by globally acclaimed pianists like Nelita True, and being the pianist for the varsity jazz band and combo under the guidance of Mayo Tiana, who has been with the Ray Charles Band.

 

Zen views music not just as a form of entertainment, but as a profound medium for personal expression and emotional connection. He is dedicated to building a solid musical foundation for his students, emphasizing the importance of both technique and theoretical knowledge. Zen's teaching approach is holistic, aiming to nurture not only the ability to play with technical proficiency but also to understand, interpret, and internalize music deeply as a whole, enriching his students' overall musicianship and personal growth. Zen is deeply passionate about empowering his students to express themselves through music, guiding them to play with heart and soul.
