OUR STORY

Ever since opening our doors in 2017, Northside Music has grown into a cultural hub in Edgebrook and the surrounding northland communities, realizing a long-anticipated dream of professional musicians Alin and Natalia Cernaianu. Together this dynamic husband-and-wife team have brought together an experienced faculty of highly-trained professional musician-educators and have developed a comprehensive music program that includes private instrumental instruction for most instruments and voice, music theory instruction, and an energetic early-childhood “Hopping Hippos” music-and-movement class. Throughout all of this programming, Northside Music Academy strives to foster creativity and confident self-expression, and is committed to nourishing the hearts, minds, and souls of their students and the community-at-large through both music lessons and special professional concerts.

Northside Music Academy is located on a quiet residential street away from heavy traffic with plenty of free parking. It features a modern and spacious facility designed to inspire the next generation of musicians, while providing a comfortable waiting room for their parents. The thoughtful intentionality of the common area, which is filled with puzzles, books, and games for kids and free wi-fi for parents, fosters an environment that promotes creativity, collaboration, and nurturing from the moment a student and their family sets foot in the door.

The caring, dedicated faculty are university-trained and knowledgeable in their instruments, with a proven track-record of successful teaching that is personalized for each and every student. They prepare a well-rounded curriculum, which incorporates music reading skills, appropriate technique development, in depth understanding of the theory of music and improvement of oral skills, exposure to various music styles. There are also frequent student performing opportunities, including end-of-term recitals which typically take place right next door at Edgebrook Community Church, a recital party designed especially for beginners, and an honors recital to recognize high-achieving students. Students of Northside Music Academy also frequently appear in recitals and concerts throughout the Chicago area, including at the Fine Arts Building and Pianoforte in the Loop and at farmers markets and residential nursing homes in the surrounding areas.
