Joanna N • Violin/Viola Instructor

Joanna N. is a violinist and violist based in the Chicagoland area. She enjoys the collaborative nature of music and regularly performs in diverse settings across multiple genres. Joanna frequently plays with orchestras throughout the Chicago area, including Camerata Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, and Illinois Symphony Orchestra, among others. As an active freelancer, she also collaborates with other musicians to perform in small chamber ensembles.

An advocate for music education, Joanna has been teaching violin and viola for over 15 years and is passionate about helping musicians of all ages develop and refine their skills. She particularly enjoys helping students explore intuitive approaches to producing a beautiful sound with technical ease. She currently teaches violin and viola at Northside Music Academy in Chicago and Glenbrook High Schools.

Joanna holds a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from Northern Illinois University, where she studied with Mathias Tacke of the former Vermeer Quartet and graduated summa cum laude. She also studied viola under Anthony Devroye of the Avalon String Quartet. From 2017 to 2019, she was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the prestigious training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
