Nick L • Percussion Instructor
Nick grew up in the Twin Cities, Minnesota and quickly became an active member of the area's youth music scene after picking up the drums at the age of 11. He was admitted to Northwestern University in 2021 for Jazz Performance, where he quickly became involved in student bands and recording projects in the area. In 2022, he made the switch to a Music Education major to pursue his love of teaching music to others. He graduated in 2026 with a B.M in Music Education, a K-12 Music Educator's License, and a B.A in Political Science.
Though he comes from a jazz background, Nick loves listening to and performing any style of music. He has even traveled to attend workshops around the world to learn Timbale and Tabla playing. Pop, Funk, Rock, Disco, Metal, RnB, Afro-Cuban, Musical Theatre, and Classical are among some of the genres he has performed on various instruments in venues around Evanston and Chicago. These include Evanston SPACE, Beat Kitchen, Double Clutch, and Cahn Auditorium.
As a private educator, Nick fuses the curriculums and teaching fundamentals that he uses in public school classrooms with his “rock and roll” experience in the musical counter-culture. He places student passion and choice first and foremost, and harnesses that excitement to facilitate musical growth. He cherishes each lesson as an opportunity to bring out the best in his students and improve alongside them.
