Zachary Empkey • Guitar Instructor

Guitarist Zachary Empkey has performed in concert halls from Spokane, WA (Bing Crosby Theatre) and Tucson, AZ (Holsclaw Hall) to Evanston, IL (Galvin Hall).  He performs a variety of repertoire for solo guitar, including works by J. S. Bach, Francisco Tarrega, Dionisio Aguado, Sergio Assad, Lennox Berkeley, Alexandre Tansman, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Roland Dyens.  Zachary has received prizes in several competitions including first prize in the Schaeffer Guitar Competition.

           

In addition to his performance experience, Zachary has enjoyed many years of professional guitar training with some of the most prominent guitarists performing today.  His training started in early high school with Craig Johnson, and Dr. Paul Grove; and continued with Professor Thomas Patterson at the University of Arizona, as well as with annual masterclasses from David Russell and Sergio and Odair Assad.  He also enjoys a passion for teaching, through which he has instructed many students in various styles.  Zachary Empkey is finishing his master’s degree in Guitar Performance at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern under the tutelage of Professor Anne Waller.

Northside Music Academy provides music lessons for the following Chicago neighborhoods: Edgebrook, Wildwood, Sauganash, Forest Glen, Jefferson Park, Mayfair, Norwood Park, Edison Park as well as the suburbs of Skokie IL, Niles IL, Park Ridge IL, Morton Grove IL, Lincolnwood IL.
